Hold on to uncertainty Search for hidden tools Reach a circle’s edge And walk in a straight line Subtract until some truth is revealed Subtract until there’s nothing left It might be good enough Feeding drips Hesitate over details And start again Subtract until some truth is revealed Subtract until there’s nothing left Lie down and spin on the floor Stun lock Don’t let it get up Wash the shower curtain again Shoebills grab at your skull So you spit on passing cars Wasteful lessons learned As the gobs fly at Lamborghini spoilers Planning for hard-won victories Planning for hard-won victories Planning for hard-won victories Planning for hard-won victories No more kicking like straws No more kicking like straws No more kicking like straws No more kicking like straws Lie Lie down Lie down and Lie down and spin Lie down and spin on Lie down and spin on the Lie down and spin on the floor Lie down and spin on the Lie down and spin on Lie down and spin Lie down and Lie down Lie Lie Lie down Lie down and Lie down and spin Lie down and spin on Lie down and spin on the Lie down and spin on the floor Lie down and spin on the Lie down and spin on Lie down and spin Lie down and Lie down Lie Hold on to uncertainty Search for hidden tools Turn the wheel into a saw And cut again Subtract until some truth is revealed Subtract until there’s nothing left A trickle of solo lines Under thick dust and empty boxes a skin of reassurance I didn’t even pause Subtract until some truth is revealed Subtract until there’s nothing left

Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen Pour myself a cup of ambition Yawn and stretch and try to come to life Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin' Out on the street the traffic starts jumpin' With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5 Workin' 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin' Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin' They just use your mind and they never give you credit It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it 9 to 5, for service and devotion You would think that I would deserve a fat promotion Want to move ahead but the boss won't seem to let me I swear sometimes that man is out to get me! They let you dream just to watch 'em shatter You're just a step on the boss-man's ladder But you got dreams he'll never take away You're in the same boat with a lotta your friends Waitin' for the day your ship'll come in An' the tide's gonna turn and it's all gonna roll your way Workin' 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin' Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin' They just use your mind and you never get the credit It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it 9 to 5, yeah they got you where they want you There's a better life, and you dream about it, don't you? It's a rich man's game no matter what they call it And you spend your life puttin' money in his wallet 9 to 5, whoa what a way to make a livin' Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin' They just use your mind and they never give you credit It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it 9 to 5, yeah they got you where they want you There's a better life, and you dream about it, don't you? It's a rich man's game no matter what they call it And you spend your life puttin' money in his wallet

gazza 04:06
This is a story about Paul Gascoigne This is a story about Paul Gascoigne and the murderer Raoul Moat So Gazza was at home one night And he was having a bit of a session And he had a couple of grams of coke in And a big bottle of whisky And a load of cans And he was settling in for the night, you know And he was doing big Gazza style lines And he was enjoying himself So he turns the telly on, you know As a bit of background noise and then, you know Sky News is on And there was actually loads of commotion going on There’s loads of fucking police, helicopters, police cars And they were all out trying to find him Trying to find Raoul Moat So he’s done another line Finished off a bit of his bag Poured himself a big whisky And he’s looking at the telly He’s looking at Raoul Moat And he’s like “I think I know him” So he has another beer, he opens the second gram of coke He lines himself another one And he’s looking at his face And he’s like “I’m pretty sure I went to school with him” So he finishes off that second bag of coke, you know It’s Gazza after all And er, pours himself the last bit of the whisky And he’s right up close to the telly He’s looking at his face And he’s like “I think he’s me brother” And I said yeah He’s my brother I said yeah He’s my brother So I’m looking at the telly And I’m like shit You’ve got yourself in a lot of bother here, haven’t you? What are you going to do? I’m going to have to come save you I’m going to have to save me brother So I get the fishing rod Out the back of the garage Put it in the car And er, me Barbour jacket Because it’s going to be cold And the chicken because he’s going to be hungry And a couple of cans And I call a taxi (Then what happens Sophie?) When the taxi gets there he’s like “yareet Gazza where you going?” And I say “just drive” And I said yeah He’s my brother I said yeah He’s my brother So I’m driving past Newcastle airport Into the countryside You know, to go and save him Save me brother And I’m looking out of the window And I open a can And as I approach the crime scene The taxis driver’s like “Gazza you can’t go there, it’s a crime scene” So I get out of the car I’ve got the fishing rod I’ve got the chicken And the can And the Barbour jacket And I’m trying to get over this fence To go save him Save my brother And a copper comes over And he’s like “Gazza you can’t be here, it’s a crime scene” Go home Gazza Go home Go home Gazza Go home Go home Gazza Go home So I get back in the taxi Have a bit of the chicken And a bit of the beer And then when I get home I pass out on the sofa When I wake up in the morning I’ve got like 250 missed calls And I’m like “shit what have I done?” I turn on the telly Gazza was there... And I said yeah He’s my brother I said yeah He’s my brother I said yeah He’s my brother I said yeah He’s my brother

A LOVE LETTER TO MOLEJOY - vimeo.com/748188258

molejoy is Sophie Chapman (bass), Giles Bunch (guitar) and Kerri Jefferis (drums), vocals by all.

Homogenous Feels was recorded live at Set Studios, New Cross (London) on Friday 27th August 2021, as part of HERE FOR A GOOD TIME NOT A LONG TIME - a retrospective exhibition by Sophie + Kerri.

This tape contains a recording of the last ever molejoy gig. Their knack for a hook shines beyond any limitations, Raincoats-esque unpolished enthusiasm and something-for-everyone lyrics: radicalised babies, gazza, the military industrial complex and dildos. Plus bonus molejoy covers, by some of the band's favourites.

Inspiring stuff, if you want it to be. So start a band, make some tunes, put on a gig - why not? molejoy did!

The performance was recorded by Rubie (rubieroo.bandcamp.com), with mix and mastering by Rupert Clervaux (www.rupertclervaux.com). Amy Pennington and Andrew Walker kept everyone lubricated with drinks, and promoted the merch. As always thanks to Antiuniversity Now, who we would not be here without.

The tape is accompanied by 'A love letter to molejoy' - a film by Sophie Chapman which tells the story of the band through VH1 style interviews with never-before-seen rehearsal and gig footage. It’s also a snapshot of a particular moment in the London music scene and love letter to all things DIY.

All songs by molejoy except for 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton and Turn it into Love by Kylie Minogue. Covers by our favourite superstars:

body - Jules (julesofficialmusic.bandcamp.com)
9 to 5 - Korjo Gourjo
MAMMA - Upset Stomach (upsetstomach.bandcamp.com)
radicalise - Dog Chocolate (dogchocolate.bandcamp.com)
rosa - Rosa and F*Choir (www.fchoir.com)

A very special thanks to James Marrs of Laura Lies In for his energy and enthusiasm whilst supporting this release.

about

molejoy London, UK

Piss thunder drums - like when you’re being bullied at school and they’re pushing you to the ground, you can't get up and you miss your bus. We were surprised too. Guitar like a janky synth. Sparse with no room in it. Melodic bass, like soft bones climbing a rope. Everything fighting to get to the front. Sassy, sarky, sincere; because no-one else cares.

“It's different, it's unusual.”
